UCS RFC mourn the passing of former player Arthur ‘Segun’ Johnson

UCS RFC are mourning the passing of former player Arthur ‘Segun’ Johnson, who has died at the age of just 58. He joined our Club in the middle 1980s along with fellow Nigerians, Ibi Obatoyimbo, Kofu Coker, Emanuel Oti, Tooks Dove-Edwin and several others. ‘Shegs’, as he was affectionately known was blessed with searing pace, he lit up the rugby fields at West Hampstead and was part of a glittering UCSOBRFC ‘Sevens’ squad that was beaten narrowly by London Welsh in the Final of the Middlesex 7s Qualifying Competition.
In 1990, Segun helped with other close friends establish London Nigerian Rugby Club. He went on to play there for many years as they made their way up the Leagues to Level 4 – the club showcasing the talent of many players with West African heritage who had settled with their families in the U.K. UCS RFC is proud to have played a small part in the development of London Nigerian Rugby Club and we send our deepest sympathies to his family, the Club and all those who knew him. Everyone who met Segun couldn’t help but be struck by his affable nature and positive frame of mind. A charming, intelligent man with a beaming smile – he will be sorely missed. May he ‘rest in peace’.  Dr G Boxer
